The
items on this page are from Mr. Snow's personal collection. The procedes will be donated
by the family to local lighthouse and life-saving
preservation organizations as determined by family members.
Edward Rowe Snow, author,
lecturer and historian, was born in Winthrop, Mass. and spent most of his
life studying the lighthouses, islands, and legends of the New England
coast. Mr. Snow has been credited with over 150 books and pamphlets as
well as tens of thousands of newspaper articles, lectures, and tours of the area. With his
beloved wife
Anna-Myrle and daughter Dorothy, Mr. Snow made hundreds of visits to light stations throughout
New England. The Snows considered the light keepers and their families to
be extensions of their own family, and the feelings were mutual. Today,
many consider Mr. Snow’s interesting and readable accounts of life at
these stations to have been the impetus launching today's increase in
lighthouse interest and preservation. Shown is Mr. Snow doing one of his
many radio broadcasts.

(wood chips) Original 1850
Minot’s Ledge Light House. From the personal collection of Edward
Rowe Snow, found in his barn, come these rare wood chips from the original Minot’s Ledge Light House. Mr Snow was fond of making
special editions of his books by including these and other momentos in the
volumes. It has been well established that such chips that Mr. Snow included
were indeed authentic and a number of photos and written accounts exist
verifying the sources from which these chips were made. Included is one wood
chip from the original 1850 Minot's Ledge Light House, along with a photocopy of Mr. Snow’s 12 page typewritten description of
contents which he included in his package “The Drama of New England in Charts,
Maps and Memorabilia by Edward Rowe Snow". In this, he discusses how he
obtained such wood pieces, along with a number of other items that he included
in his books and pamphlets. A rare opportunity to obtain these sought after
pieces. $22 each. (Titanic wood chip no longer available.

1716-1973. c.1973. 340p. In printing and publishing, galley proofs
are the preliminary versions of publications meant for review by authors,
editors, and proofreaders. Galley proofs may be uncut and unbound, as is the
case here. Sheets are approximately 24” long by 10” high and contain up to
four printed pages for the book on each sheet, with spaces on each margin for
corrections to be noted. Pages from the Introduction to last text page #340 are
included. Following Mr. Snow’s approval of this proof, The Lighthouses of New
England 1716-1973 was sent to print. This is an unprecedented find for
collectors of Mr. Snow’s works! If you have this title in your collection,

c.1968. This is the original double spaced typed manuscript for the
first seventeen chapters of Fantastic Folklore and Fact. They were typed by Mr.
Snow and his wife Anna, and then gone over and over again, with changes made in
pencil, and by cutting and pasting, to finalize the text. This then would have
been re-typed, and then sent to the editor for additional proofing before a
galley proof would have been made. Consists of about 213 pages, 8 ½” x 11”.

works, this pamphlet was based upon a talk given by Mr. Snow after researching
the stories behind the many poems of John Greenleaf Whittier spanning the 19th
Century. One interest of Mr. Whittier was

coastal happenings, deepwater tails and heroes of the sea. Detailed herein are
the backgrounds of such tales as The Palatine Affair, Skipper Ireson’s Ride,
Sinking of the “

In the mid 1960’s, Mr. Snow wrote a column for The Quincy Patriot Ledger
entitled “Mail Bag”, in which he would answer questions mailed in from his
readers. This lot consists of 57 of his original typed copy for these columns.
All are on period 8 ½” x 11” paper, typed in his hand double spaced, and
may include an occasional note or correction in his hand. Some toning from age
but overall in very good condition. A rare lot and insight into his methods and
writings. $58.
